## Data Table

Analysing and interpreting data tables are part of our personal and professional life. Examples of data tables are - Financial data as in P & L sheet, marketing and sales data etc..

Data table questions are asked under data interpretation in all competitive examinations.

## Data Table Interpretation

While interpreting data table, the following points should be taken into account:

1. Always look at the table heading to know what kind of data is given.
2. Unit of data should be clearly noted down.
3. Foot note, if any, should always be noted down.
4. If some values is required in many questions, calculate it from the table in advance.

Example: Read the following table carefully and answer the questions that follow:

Sales data of Company ABC from 1999 - 2003

 Year-> 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 Sales (in Rs Crore) 240 300 320 350 380 Profit (in Rs Crore) 50 55 70 50 40

Q1: Find the growth rate and growth during 2000 to 2002.

Solution: Growth during the period from 2000 to 2002 is the difference of sales = 350 - 300 = 50 crores.

But the Growth rate during this period is the percentage of growth = [(350 - 300)/300] × 100 = 16.67%

Q2: Find the percentage increase in profit from 1999 to 2001.

Solution: % increase in profit = (20/50) x 100 = 40%
